Sunil Srivastava

Sunil’s passion for food led him to pursue a career in the Culinary Arts. He is a graduate of the Institute of Hotel Management in Bangalore, India. He has grilled and marinated his culinary skills under the masters of Bukhara (one of India’s most famous restaurants in New Delhi) and Dumpukth.

In the US, Sunil has worked as Executive chef at several popular restaurants including:

  • Tamarind (the first Indian restaurant on the Michelin recommended restaurant list and one of the top Indian restaurants in NYC, When Chef Sunil was heading the Restaurant) and
  • Amber (voted as one of the best Indian restaurants in Zagat 2008)

In India, he has worked at prestigious 5star hotels like:

  • ITC Welcomgroup
  • Taj Group,
  • Le Meridien Group
  • Quality Inns

His accomplishments include

  • Runner up in Best of Bayou, Organized by Ben E Keith Food Distribution Company.
  • Best Chef of the Year award in a French Cookery competition organized by Associates of Catering Professionals in Hyderabad.
  • Won an “Intra Hotel Competition” in Biryani, Kebab and Dessert sections.
  • Distinguished chef for 2003 Femina Miss World competition held in India.
  • His First Casual Eatery Great W’kana café, ranked among the Top 100 of Houston
  • Verandah Was among the top 10, anticipated restaurants of Houston in 2018.
  • Since 2019, Verandah has been in the top 100 of Houston, by Houston Chronicle.
  • Top 5 by Houstonia magazine.

He has had the privilege of cooking for some famous world leaders like

  • Duke of Edinburg and Queen Elizabeth during their historic visit to India in 1997,
  • Bill Clinton on his Indian Visit, 
  • Indian Prime Ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh.

He has also served diplomats and dignitaries like Microsoft founder Bill Gates, the Ambassador of Tunisia to India, French Naval Commodore, etc.

He has catered to the palates of several famous Indians like tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, Salman Khan, Sonu Nigam, Paresh Rawal, Sunny Deol, Ratan Tata, Azim Premji of Wipro, Narayan Murthy of Infosys, ex Finance Minister Chidambaram, Maharani of Baroda, King of Mysore, Maharajas of Jodhpur/Jaipur/Bikaner, George Fernandes, Arjun Singh, Menaka Gandhi, Supreme court of India judge on his USA visit, Sabeer Bhatia (founder of Hotmail), Vinod Dham (Intel, Founder of Pentium Chip)

Sunil has catered for India House, Hilton hotel, Marriott, Omni, and plenty of private events, prominent among those the prestigious Asia Society Tiger ball, Jugal Malani of Unique Industry in Houston, Ramesh Bhutada of Star Pipe Products, Veer Vasistha of Software Group.

Chef for Indian Film Festivals of Houston since 2015.

He is also a Certified Sommelier from WSET and Court of Sommelier
